Fall Advice: Protect Your Hair

BY VANGARDE GIRL NELLE, SEPTEMBER 9, 2010

Mornings are beginning to feel pretty brisk in New York City. Although I love wool scarves for the warmth they provide during the colder months, the wool scarves don't love my hair.  For the past several years I have experienced extreme hair breakage during the fall/winter months and I owe it all to my chunky wool scarves.

Two items you want to stray away from this fall/winter are wool and cotton scarves. If you have experienced hair breakage during the fall/winter it might have nothing to do with your hair care regimen and everything with what you have been placing on or near your hair.  Wool and cotton scarves will rub against and pull on your hair causing hair breakage at the nape of your neck.  Most people recommend sewing a silk lining into your scarf but who really has the time to go out buy silk fabric then sew it in.  I recommend reading labels, if the label reads cotton, wool or merino(a type of wool, don't be fooled) now matter how cute it is DO NOT PURCHASE.  Instead try out cashmere, pashmina, silk and blended scarves.  I'd rather invest in good scarf then spend the summer re-growing my hair.  I have detailed a few scarves under $50 below.
I FORGOT TO MENTION STAY AWAY FROM UNLINED WOOL HATS!!!!!!
