NO IT'S NOT VINTAGE!!!
BY VANGARDE GIRL NELLE, JANUARY 19, 2011
Let's stop throwing the word vintage around so loosely. Many people swear since they owned a designer bag, scarf, dress shoe etc... for five to six years it's vintage. PLEASE STOP WITH THE MADNESS ALREADY, IT'S NOT VINTAGE. Vintage clothing refers to clothing made in the 1920's to usually early 1980's. If you've owned a garment for 20 plus years you have your claim to vintage, if not as Joey from full house would say cut-it-out. Clothing produced before the 1920's is antique. Recently made clothing that appear to be worn, faded and have old school silhouettes imitating previous era's are referred to as retro. Majority of vintage clothes are pre-owned. Vintage designer garments previously worn or not are very pricey. These garments and accessories can sometimes go for more than current selling prices since it can be considered a collectible item. It's rare you'll find unworn vintage garments. Thrift shops and Vintage shops are not one in the same. Although majority of the clothing in thrift shops sell outdated clothing. Clothing from two years can end up in a thrift shops.
What's considered can be and has been debating for quite some time. Today the word is used so often vintage its transforming into a style of dress/fashion instead of a place in time. Most people who feel they are vintage are pretty much just retro in my eyes. Shops like Urban Outfitters cater to people who love that vintage look. Urban Outfitters carry a lot of merchandise that look dated and second hand but made yesterday. To each it's own, this was just my two cents. I feel like I just had a mad rapper tell em' why you're mad session.
