Dior "Shanghai Dreamer" ad campaign

BY VANGARDEGIRL MO, SEPTEMBER 3, 2010
There has been some controversy over Christian Dior's new ad campaign  in China. People are calling the ads racist. The photographer Quentin Shih, who is from China, says otherwise. The photos were meant to be placed on the walls of Dior's reopened boutique in Shanghai. The models in the picture are wearing Spring 2011 couture collection.

On Quentin's website Quentin Shih, explains his work of art.
"My inspiration came from a certain Chinese style of group photography but these ceremonial photographs marks a departure from a certain historical period and herald the future. I created some typical Chinese groupings; they replicate themselves, wearing plastic clothes. They stand on display in vast spaces or upon a stage - because they were, and still are dreamers. As China enters a new era, they begin to stand together upon a world stage, self-conscious and yet filled with power."

Reading this makes me ask myself, who are these people that believe his work was racist. Sometimes it may be difficult to express oneself, but if you can do that and make other people stop to think and talk about it, I truly believe you've made your point.

One thing for sure I would definitely stop and look. What about you!

Enjoy :)
