Vogue Italia has done it again and...

BY VANGARDE GIRL MO, MAY 6, 2011
....I love it. I have to say as an African American young woman living in the States I wish our beauty was represented more in American magazines like Vogue Italia. In their May 2011 issue Vogue Italia has decided to feature up and coming models Jeneil Williams, Kelly Moreira, Jae Childs, Lily Taylor, Jasmine Tookas, R’el Dade, Cici Ali,Gayle McDonald, Ubah Hassan and Ariel Meredith just like their predecessors before them. Kudos to the photographer Ellen von Unwerth and the stylist Giulio Martinelli for capurturing everything that is beautiful about a black woman. I love the colors, outfits, and most of all I love the beautifully written note from the editor, Claire Sulmers, that came alongside this article.

"With bright eyes peering out under deliciously curled lashes, cheekbones and jawbones contoured as if chiseled from sharp stone, full noses, and sumptuously lush lips, black women are unquestionably beautiful.
A tribute is due to the woman whose skin tone ranges from alabaster to mahogany to smooth onyx, who can flawlessly carry any makeup look—from gold dusted lids to fuchsia blush to ripe purple and pink glosses. These pages pay homage to the versatile woman whose hair can oscillate from a tightly coiled and coifed Afro, to sleek layers, to a slicked back pixie cut in a matter of minutes. To the divine woman whose enviably full lips, strong, white teeth, and delightful smile have been known to electrify the hearts of many. To the siren whose smooth, velvety skin blocks the sun yet remains supple and unblemished with the passage of time.
Variable and diverse, black beauty escapes simple classification. But no matter the incarnation—whether the color of molasses, cafĂ© au lait, bronze, tan, or tinged like desert sand—black beauties radiate with poise and multidimensional splendor."
This is the second time this year Vogue Italia has decided to pay tribute to black women the first was in February "Black Allure". I wonder will this be a movement amongst the fashion industry to change with the time and add more diversity in magazines and in shows. What do you think?

Jessica Alba in Vogue Italia

BY VANGARDE GIRL MO, APRIL 8, 2011
I had to do a double take when I saw this spread of Jessica Alba in Vogue Italia April issue. With the fringe bob, and dark lips I didn't recognize it was her. She looks amazing and very mysteries. Kudos to Michelangelo Di Battista who photographed Alba and to Alice Gentilucci, who was the stylist. Loving the outfits from the Prada fur stole and Moschino dress, to Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana outfits.

If you can't get enough of Jessica Alba, check out the rest of her photos and you can visit, All about Alba.

Italia Vogue "The Black Allure"

BY VANGARDE GIRL MO, FEBRUARY 5, 2011
If you are near a newsstand check out the February issue of Italian Vogue. I was absolutely floored by their "Black Allure" photo spread. Every single model looked amazing. I mean you had the caramel, chocolate, toffee, hazel, chestnut, brownie, just all types of  what makes us, US. Thanks to Ajak Deng, Arlenis Sosa Pena, Jourdan Dunn, Rose Cordero, Mia Aminata Niaria, Chanel Iman, Lais Ribeiro, Melodie Monrose, Sessilee Lopez, Georgia Baddiel, and Joan Smalls for accepting to do such a beautiful spread.
I just wish and hope that more ethnic models were featured in magazines not just only as a group, or black history month. I know this Vogue Italia and is in the European market, but you can't help to wonder why couldn't it be another month (interesting).

However, I can't lie when credit is due. If you want to see more check out more after the jump and trust me there's more even a video.
